High Temperature Superconductivity.
Abstract:
The overall goals of this program are to develop the technology of MBE Molecular Beam Epitaxy, growth of HTSC High temperature superconductors material, to optimize the performance of HTSC films with high transition temperatures and critical current densities, and to explore the development of electronic devices based on such material. During this period work focussed on learning how to grow the 123-phase semiconductor by atomic layering. The atomic absorption system was used to measure Dy and Ba fluxes. The absorbance of Dy is somewhat low, by utilizing careful measurement techniques sufficiently precise measurements were obtained. Growth of the 123-phase under conditions similar to those used for growth of the Bi-family superconductors gave smooth surfaces and sharp transitions with a zero resistance temperature of more than 89 K.
