The Balanced Technology Initiative: Annual Report to Congress. Volume 2. BTI Projects Status Reports.
Abstract:
The Balanced Technology Initiative BTI is a program started by the 99th Congress to enable the DoD to correct gaps in U.S. conventional warfighting capabilities. The BTI program seeks quantum jumps in capabilities, not evolutionary improvements, and strives to realize these jumps by applying advanced technology. This is an edited version of the BTI Project Status Reports which were provided to Congress as part of the annual report. In the past year, the program has achieved several noteworthy milestones and successes. The report summarizes the operational utility, technical approach, progress to date, and planned activities for 17 BTI projects. The projects fall under the broad categories of Advanced Armament, Target Acquisition, Battle Management- C3I smart Weapons, and High Power Microwaves.
