Abstract:

Initially provides background information surrounding Unit Deployments of U.S. Armed Forces to contingency areas. Makes recommendations that the Department of Defense expand the use of both containers and containerships to deploy unit equipment. Additionally, provides a methodology of container selection appropriate for each battalion-type. The commercial carriers perspective on the use of the Intermodal Transportation system for unit equipment is also included.
