Fuel Properties Effect on the Performance of a Small High Temperature Rise Combustor
Abstract:
The performance of an advanced small high temperature rise combustor was experimentally determined. The combustor was designed to meet the requirements of advanced high temperature, high pressure ratio turboshaft engines. The combustor featured an advanced fuel injector and advanced segmented liner design. The full size combustor was evaluated at power conditions ranging from idle to maximum power. The effect of broad fuel properties was studied by evaluating the combustor with three different fuels. The fuels used were JP-5, a blend of Diesel Fuel MarineHome Heating Oil DFMHHO, and a blend of Suntec C Home Heating Oil SunCHHO. This paper documents the fuel properties effect on the performance of the combustor in terms of pattern factor, liner temperatures, and exhaust emissions.
