Von Willebrand's Disease
Abstract:
Patients with a history of epistaxis, menorrhagia or excessive bleeding after dental or surgical procedures may have von Willebrands disease. Although screening coagulation tests may be normal, many patients with this disease will have excessive bleeding after surgical procedures if the disorder has not been recognized and appropriately treated. Patients with von Willebrands disease may be treated with a medication that stimulates an increase in von Willebrands factor, allowing them to avoid the need for blood product support.
