Abstract:

From the invention of the first transistor in 1947 to solid-state advances leading up to the 21st century, this paper presents the historical developments of solid-state devices. Along with individual solid-state milestones, the paper relates the solid-state accomplishments to advances in the computer industry, military, and the commercial world.
