Performance of Y-TZP Materials Between 800 C and 1200 C
Abstract:
The performance of seven yttria-tetragonal zirconia polycrystal materials in the 800 C to 1200 C temperature range was examined using stepped- temperature stress-rupture tests. The strength in this temperature range was significantly lower than the room temperature strength. This is due to a decrease in the chemical driving force for the tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation. As a result, these materials are not suitable for high temperature structural applications. At these temperatures the strength is controlled by microstructural parameters such as grain size, grain size distribution, and porosity. Keywords Ceramic materials.
