Some Practical Advice on Cold Weather Clothing

Abstract:

Considerable research and development has been carried out on cold weather clothing at the Defense Research Establishment Ottawa. This paper explains in laymens language, the practical knowledge gained in the course of this work. It deals in turn with the five elements of good winter clothing design, thickness, dryness, wind proofness, whole-body coverage and flexibility. It concludes with explanations of how breathable fabrics, wicking fabrics and aluminized materials work and how practical they are.
