Toward an Understanding of Goal Commitment: A Proposed Model

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing goal commitment by reviewing the literature on goal setting. The study had four basic objectives 1 Determine the factor influencing goal commitment. 2 Construct a goal commitment model based on previous research. 3 Measure the validity of the determinants via a survey instrument. 4 Propose practical applications for commanders, managers and supervisors to obtain goal commitment. The study found that five determinants significantly determine goal commitment. They are external rewards, self efficacy, trust, expectancy and competition. The study found that competition had a negative impact on goal commitment.
