ARNG (Army National Guard) Premobilization Combat Readiness: Training for Mobilization and Training for Combat

The total Armys growing dependence upon the Army National Guard ARNG to meet our national security requirements has focused increased emphasis on quality training. This emphasis has resulted in a marked improvement in the combat capability of the ARNG. Programs such as CAPSTONE have contributed to this renaissance. But, can ARNG units survive the mobilization process in a condition that will allow them to function on the battlefield This study examines recent ARNG mobilizations through the eyes of two units and then surveys the current regulations covering training for combat and training for mobilization at the unit level. The study concludes with a summary of findings and recommendations aimed at improving the mobilization posture of the ARNG. Keywords Case studies Korea Vietnam.
