Functions of Group Goals: Possible Generalizations from Individuals to Groups
Abstract:
Performance goals frequently facilitate the performance of individuals. There is also some evidence that goals have beneficial effects on groups or teams. However, much less is known about the latter than about the former. This report briefly reviews the goal setting literature for individuals and groupsteams. It follows this review with suggestions about ways to better understand and implement goals in groups or teams in order to benefit team performance and group members.
