Abstract:

Optical disk technology, the use of lasers to store and retrieve information, is a growing technology for use in audio, video, computer storage and multi-media applications. This technology has a great potential in educational applications. After reviewing the history of information capture and storage, this paper examines how optical disk technology works, its capabilities and limitations. The paper reviews current and potential educational applications, and matches ACSC technology requirements against the potential of optical disk. The paper concludes that optical disk is a viable technology to meet several ACSC requirements and recommends the acquisition of optical disk systems for use in specific applications. Keywords Data storage.
