Military Airlift Command Air Transportation Training Study.

This comprehensive report of the review and evaluation of MAC air transportation training outlines current training deficiencies and provides recommendations to eliminate major ones and promote the overall enhancement of the Military Airlift Command MAC air transportation training system. Results of the study are directly applicable to the improved readiness of U.S. military forces, specifically because of the role of air transportation career fields to the MAC mission and the overall importance of MAC to both strategic and tactical mobility of fighting forces within all the armed forces. MAC directs 92,000 active duty military and civilian personnel and almost 1,000 aircraft at more than 350 locations world-wide in twenty-four countries. In addition, to active-duty personnel, MAC also directs, during contingency requirements and wartime, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve assets that comprise an additional 55,000 people and almost 400 aircraft. Its major missions are the deployment, employment, and redeployment of combat forces and their support equipment and logistical supply support. In its role as the executive agent for Department of Defense airlift, MAC in 1982 moved more than 440,000 tons of cargo and more than 2,200,000 passengers.
