Evaluation of Naval Reserve Personnel Records: An Analysis of Problem Areas.
Abstract:
The objective of this study was to determine 1 the accuracy of service records of Naval Reserve personnel, 2 if location of activity maintaining records affected the records, 3 how informed personnel were about their records, and 4 perceptions of personnel about the role of their records, and their responsibility in maintaining them. The data source was sample of 167 records and personnel at two Naval Reserve Centers and three record keeping centers. Service records from each center were reviewed, and the results were attached to a questionaire which was administered to appropriate members. A modified questionaire was administered to personnel whose records had not been examined. Analysis of data led to the conclusions that 1 there were systematic errors in officers records, but not in enlisted records, 2 the location of the record keeping did not affect enlisted records, but did seem to affect officers records, 3 a majority of the personnel were well informed about their records, 4 perceptions held by personnel about their service records are consistent with Navy policy.
