Material Handling Equipment Allowance, Maintenance, and Management Methodology Project: Task 1 - Descriptions of Required Material Handling Processes.
Abstract:
The overall objective of the Material Handling Equipment MHE Allowance, Maintenance, and Management Methodology Project is to develop a model that can be used as a tool to determine MHE requirements and develop utilization goals for ashore Navy activities in order to maximize utilization and effectiveness. The types of MHE considered are all mobile MHE consisting of warehouse tractors, truck cranes, forklift trucks, platform trucks, straddle trucks, and pallet rucks -- fueled by diesel, electric, gasoline, or propane. This project is being performed in four tasks. The specific objective of this Task 1 report is to develop a functional description of current Navy ashore material handling and related maintenance process areas. This report describes the material handling flow of the activities that were visited. A standard format was used to describe the processes that comprise the material handling system of each activity. An associated, synthesized, functional flow was also developed for each described activity system. Measures of Effectiveness to be used as a basis for evaluationcomparative analyses during the course of the project were identified.
