Abstract:
The training course Ship Navigation Channel Design was presented at the US Army Engineer Waterways Station WES from 18-21 April 1983. The subject matter presented in the course included design manuals, planning and economic topics, theoretical topics, sediment transport, several ongoing projects, ship pilots perspective, research projects, and Coast Guard subjects. Specific topics include A theoretical explanation of ship dynamics in waves --both deepwater and shallow-water effects. Planning and design of deep-draft channels along the Texas coast Problems and conditions that exist at the Columbia River Entrance simulation techniques used at COARFComputer Aided Operations Research Facility in channel design. Sediment transport research and modeling Harborport entrance design Depth requirements at harbor entrances Navigation and ship maneuvering in channels and Underkeel clearance in ports.
