Status of Improved MIL-G-10924, Grease, Automotive and Artillery (GAA) Program

Abstract:

A project was established to improve the performance of Military Specification MIL-G-10924C, Grease, Automotive and Artillery GAA, since a survey of Department of Defense DOD user activities indicated that the lubricant performed marginally in military ground vehicles and equipment. The initial literature search and research indicated that the base-grease formulation did not provide the necessary high temperature capacity or the ability to impede corrosion by saltwater. In-house and commercially formulated mineral oil greases were found to be unable to meet the necessary performance criteria, when transitioned from laboratory to full protection scale manufacturing.
