Abstract:

The acute toxicities of a single oral dose of the DMSO process stream samples, DMSO Evaporator Sludge, DMSO Recycle Solvent, and Virgin DMSO, were determined in male and female albino Sprague-Dawley rats. The DMSO Evaporator Sludge and Virgin DMSO solutions produced no deaths in male or female rats at a limit dose level of 5.0 m1kg. The DMSO Recycle Solvent was more toxic, and a LD50 with 95 percent confidence limit was calculated by probit analysis. The DMSO Recycle Solvent LD50 was 2.1 m1kg in male rats, 95 percent confidence limit 1.5 m1kg, 2.8 m1kg, and 1.3 m1kg in female rats, 95 percent confidence limit 1.0 m1kg, 1.8 m1kg.
