Real-Time Implementation of a Speech Digitization Algorithm Combining Time-Domain Harmonic Scaling and Adaptive Residual Coding. Volume 2.

Abstract:

This report describes the results of a fifteen month study of the real-time implementation of an algorithm combining time-domain harmonic scaling and Adaptive Residual Coding at a transmission bit rate of 16 kbs. The modifications of this encoding algorithm as originally presented by Melso and Pande to allow real-time implementation are described in detail. A non real-time FORTRAN simulation using a sixteen-bit word length was developed and tested to establish feasibility. The hardware implementation of a full-duplex, real-time system has demonstrated that this algorithm is capable of producing toll quality speech digitization. This report has been divided into two volumes. The second volume discusses details of the hardware implementation, schematics for the system and operating instructions.
