Pictorial Encoding Techniques for a Pictorial Database.
Abstract:
In this report the authors present a methodology of picture encoding for a pictorial database. They first discuss hypercube encoding and the picture covering problem. The hypercube encoding technique generalizes tightly-closed boundary encoding and picture paging techniques. The hierarchical hypercube encoding technique is then introduced. They discuss how micro-pictures can be associated with a hypercube encoding. The picture reconstruction problem can be regarded as materialization of the support picture from a micro-picture. The concepts of picture tree and picture query are then introduced, and we present structured picture retrieval technique. It is illustrated that both generalized zooming and staging techniques can be regarded as special cases of structured picture retrievals. Finally picture information measures for similarity retrieval are presented. Author
