Tensile Property Evaluation of Polycrystalline Alumina Filaments and Their Composites.
Abstract:
The tensile properties of polycrystalline alumina filaments DuPont Fiber FB were experimentally measured and statistically evaluated for several different gage lengths 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 inches. Using a two-parameter Weibull distribution function to describe the in situ filament failure stresses, a statistical failure mode analysis for composites gave excellent agreement between theoretical predictions and published tensile strength data on cast Fiber FPaluminum and Fiber FPmagnesium.
