Positioning Tropical Cyclones in Satellite Imagery.

Abstract:

A three step operational approach to positioning Pacific-based tropical cyclones in satellite imagery is presented. In the pre- analysis stage the image is acquired, selectively processed, and correctly gridded. During the analysis stage the circulation center of the cyclone is fixed based on cloud features in the image. In the third stage, post-analysis, quality control procedures assure optimum accuracy of the determined position fix.
