Initial Experience with a Local Network -- Net/One by Ungermann-Bass, Inc.

Abstract:

NetOne, the local area network produced by Ungermann-Bass, has been installed and operated in the Georgia Tech Fully Distributed Processing Systems FDPS testbed. Currently NetOne interfaces with Prime 400, Prime 550, and PDP 1145 computers which are located in the computer lab and several different types and brands of ASCII, asynchronous terminals. This report includes a description of the design and operation of the various NetOne components, a discussion of the rational for the selection of NetOne for installation in the FDPS testbed, our initial experiences with NetOne including problems encountered and their solutions, and concludes with a description of the plans for future enhancements to its operation.
