Abstract:

This is a summary report of research found in electronicelectrical engineering at British universities during the authors tour of duty as liaison scientist with the London Branch Office of the US Office of Naval Research, August 1978 to August 1980. The first section lists the agencies funding research in the UK, with some figures on the amount of funding and its distribution. This is followed by a brief discourse on British universities, with facts relevant to the student population in EEE at universities, and a comparison of British and American graduate and undergraduate programs. Some special arrangements in relation to research are treated next, followed by a general assessment of graduate research at British universities. The final section contains, in summary form, information about the research found by the writer during his visits to 22 universities in England, Wales, and Scotland. Author
