Concepts of Signal Acquisition and Processing for Use with a Passive Space Communication Array

Abstract:

A passive communication satellite is attractive for relaying strategic messages between distant points under conditions where active communication satellite and other terrestrial links have been negated. This note addresses two problems associated with efficient passive communication satellite use 1 signal acquisition and 2 correction for array near-field signal degradation. A signal transfer model is developed for the satellite array, from which various fundamental properties are derived and used to assess the magnitude of the problems. Solutions are then proposed and evaluated with respect to practical implementations.
