An Investigation of the Five Point Restraint System for Aviators
Abstract:
This report investigated a purported restriction on aircrew leg movements due to the anchor point location of the five point restraint system in the Advanced Attack helicopter AAH. The system was investigated with aviators wearing both body armor and survival vest. An adjustable AAH crew seat mock-up was used which contained production cushions with anti-torque pedals with toe brakes. Results showed that the current configuration would not restrict the leg motion of the pilot. However, the restraint system did interfere with the body armor and survival vest. This effect confounded the results.
