Abstract:

With the advent of the Long Range Patrol Aircraft LRPA the CP-140 Aurora, the Canadian Forces will not only be acquiring a new aircraft but a new supplemental oxygen system as well. This system is the Scott Aviox which is a solid state system that utilizes a chemical composition for oxygen production versus more conventional methods of stored liquid or gaseous oxygen. Although this type of system is not new in the aviation world, it is only now being adopted for use in the CF. Because of the novelty of this system in the CF, this evaluation study was conducted to determine the units ability to meet criteria established in regards to reliability, production and ability to operate after being exposed to temperature extremes.
