Aircraft Engine Nacelle Fire Test Simulator. Volume I. Technical.
Abstract:
This report describes the design, installation, and initial checkout of the Aircraft Engine Nacelle Fire Test Simulator. This facility was designed to realistically reproduce the environments and combustion-related phenomena encountered within an engine nacelle. The facility provides both heating and cooling of the inlet air, heating of the engine case, control of air velocity and air pressure, and for the injection of fluids, combustibles or extinguishants. The report presents the final implementation of the system and details the hardware installation, the control system, and the software needed to provide integrated control, safety, and data acquisition. Only limited checkout was possible due to the failure of the air compressor and the cleaning and modification efforts required to return the system to a safe operating level.
