Claims, Counterclaims, and Components: A Countercritique of Componential Analysis.

Abstract:

This article summarizes criticisms that have been leveled at the authors componential subtheory of human intelligence, and presents his responses to these criticisms. The general topics covered in the article are the nature of intelligence the componential approach to intelligence the notion of the component, including the nature of components, methods for identifying components, and the knowledge base upon which components operate componential analysis compared to alternative paradigms, including the factorial one and the information-processing one and the contribution of componential analysis to the study of intelligence. The article is a reply to commentaries on Sketch of a Componential Subtheory of Human Intelligence, which is to appear in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences along with the commentaries by 16 psychologists in the field of human intelligence. The Sketch is a modified version of the authors Components of Human Intelligence AD-A079 760.
