Spatial Data Management System
Abstract:
This report describes work on the design and implementation of a prototype Spatial Data Management System SDMS. Spatial Data Management is a technique for storing and retrieving information which employs pictorial representations of data arranged on a collection of flat surfaces which the user can view on a color, raster-scan display. Tools are provided for interactively entering graphical and symbolic data, including a mechanism for generating graphical representations of existing, shared symbolic data bases. Several new features that increase the utility of the system were implemented. These are a new statement in the modified query language of the underlying DBMS extensions to the graphical editor extensions to the module which manages objects in the graphical Data Space GDS and a terminal emulator to provide a text interface to SDMS.
