Evaluation of the Tracton Characteristics of Three Lubricants.
Abstract:
A combination of experimental techniques is used to characterize the viscoelastic properties of three lubricant candidates. These data were used as inputs in a model calculation to evaluate the traction characteristics of the candidate fluids for application to rolling element bearing analysis. All are found to have lower traction coefficients than the best traction fluids currently available. The major cause of this stems from the relatively slow variation of the shear viscosity with pressure in all three fluids and in one case a rather broad relaxation time spectrum. The other viscoelastic factors that are important in determining traction are found to be in a quite normal range. Author
