Laser Dye Purity as Determined by Thin Layer Chromatography.

Abstract:

A total of 66 laser dyes have been examined by thin layer chromatography for the presence of impurities using three different solvent systems. Very few dyes were found that could be considered as pure. The specific effect, if any, of the impurities upon the lasing characteristics of the dyes is not known. Further work is needed to determine whether a purer dye would yield better lasing characteristics. A few dyes were shown to degrade while being tested. Author
