Military Utilization of Physician's Assistants
Abstract:
This report discusses the utilization of physicians assistants PAs in Air Force outpatient clinics and the applicability of the Air Forces experience to Army and Navy clinics. The authors first summarize the training of Air Force PAs, then describe the Air Forces increasing reliance on PAs to deliver primary medical care. A simple comparison of Army and Navy clinics with Air Force clinics indicates important differences do exist. Air Force use of PAs has been evaluated only in the primary medicine clinics of relatively small facilities. The authors do not recommend extension to other settings in any service without further study.
