Ejection Seat for High-G Escape
Abstract:
Advanced flight vehicles operating at acceleration loads beyond human functional capabilities require a new reclining seat design. An ejection seat compatible with this requirement must provide safe ejection and aircraft clearances under high-G conditions as well as the requirements associated with high dynamic pressures and low altitudes. Design criteria and interface requirements have been established. Ejection seat subsystems have been developed and seat design concepts generated to meet criteria and interface requirements. Candidate seat concepts have been analyzed to determine cockpit integration effects, accelerations, ejection clearances, escape performance, structural requirements and weights. A final design concept has been selected to meet all requirements of an ejection seat for high-G escape. The final report includes a parametric study of tail clearances and discusses technical design details and conclusions of the work performed.
