Investigation of N,N-Diethyl-M-Toluamide(M-Det) for Dominant Lethal Effects in the Mouse.
Abstract:
A single dose of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide m-Det in corn oil was administered to male mice by gavage in a dominant lethal assay to evaluate its potential mutagenicity in male germ cells. The compound did not induce a positive mutagenic response during an 8-week mating period in which each of 10 males was cohoused weekly with 3 untreated virgin females, although there was a slight, but statistically insignificant reduction in the total number of fetal implants. This reduction was probably not genetic in origin. Triethylenemelamine TEM, which served as the positive control, induced a dominant lethal response during weeks 1, 2, 3 and 6 of mating. Author
