Tactical Integrated Air Defense System
Abstract:
Several significant events of the past decade have demonstrated the importance of tactical integrated air defense. These events include the air war over North Vietnam, the 1973 Middle East War, and the changes in Soviet offensive tactical air doctrine and capability. These three major events are examined and form the basis for a comprehensive assessment of the present United States tactical integrated air defense system IADS. The IADS assessment includes a study of IADS doctrine, organization, methods of control and integration, command and control equipment, weapons, and current joint training. The study concludes that the United States is inadequately prepared to conduct a tactical integrated air defense battle. Major deficiencies in all areas of the integration process are discussed.
