Lead Zirconate Titanate (LZT) Ceramics.
Abstract:
Tests of batch-to-batch reproducibility of LZT powders made by molten salt synthesis were carried out by measuring the properties of ceramics fired from them. Individual post-poling dielectric constants and planar coupling coefficients lay within plus or minus 4 and plus or minus 7, respectively, of the average of all samples fired in the same way. Striking similarities in characteristic aging behavior of the dielectric constant among all samples from all powder batches that were fired in the same way were observed. The characteristics changed with the firing method. Tests of poling behavior indicate an effect of post-firing history on properties achieved in subsequent polings of a sample. The presence of unreacted zirconia in the starting powder was found to be deleterious to ceramic properties.
