Multi-Sensor System (MUSS) for Airborne Surveillance of Inshore Waters
Abstract:
Data were assembled and listed in this report on state-of-the-art aircraft sensors which could be integrated to form a Multi-Sensor System MUSS for surveillance of inshore waters. The following sensor categories are included radars active, imaging, optical multispectral spectrometers passive, imaging, infrared scanners passive, imaging, infrared radiometers spectrometers passive, non-imaging, cameras and active laser systems. The MUSS might be required to perform the following missions 1 collect data on previously uncharted areas 2 collect data on previously charted areas using different sensors, and 3 collect data for update andor verification of archival data. The principal beach parameters which must be measured by the MUSS include length, width, gradient, surf and tidal range and nearshore currents. It is possible that the MUSS would also be able to yield information on the type of sediment and trafficability of the nearshore zone in addition to locating obstacles in the surf zone and mapping the ground cover.
