Overview of ATMT and Analysis of Subphase IIB
Abstract:
This report contains an overview of all phases and subphases of the Antitank Missile Test ATMT with a detailed discussion of the analysis of the data collected during Subphase IIB. The purpose of ATMT was to determine the degradation of the TOW, DRAGOM, and Shillelagh missile systems caused by target vehicle evasive maneuvers. The target vehicles used in all subphases were the M60A1 tank, XM800 Scout, and the XM808 TWISTER. The ATMT methodology includes the use of hybrid missile simulations, actual gunner tracking error, vehicle evasive maneuvers in an operational environment, and data collection from field testing. Thus, the field test provided realistic data on all but the live firing of the missiles. The verified missile simulations, using field test data as input, were then substituted for actual live firing. Results of the analysis of the data collected in Subphase IIB are provided in three areas line-of-sight pairings with firing sequences, target vehicle velocity and acceleration summaries, and relationships among maximum gunner error and target vehicle motion.
