The Role of Lubricant Type and Substrate Composition in Thermally Induced Oil Migration.

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: ADA048716 | Open PDF

Abstract:

The dependence of thermally induced oil migration on substrate composition and lubricant type has been investigated. It was found that, unless dewetting occurs, the substrate composition does not affect the rate of migration. It was also verified that oils other than Apiezon C undergo thermally induced oil migration. These results agree with the predictions of our theoretical model. Finally, the relative stability of grease films to temperature gradients of the same magnitude was demonstrated. Author
