Design Criteria for Medical and Dental Suites in Cruisers and Medium-Sized Auxiliaries.
Abstract:
This document presents, in drawings and text, the functional design requirements of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery for medicaldental suites in cruisers and medium. These suites are based upon design criteria which have been developed earlier for discrete types of dental and medical spaces, and are intended to combine appropriate numbers and types of such spaces into an optimal arrangement. The report takes into account the existing equipment limitations and shipboard constraints. Using the present state-of-the-art as a baseline, an outline of an R and D program will be developed. Accomplishment of this program is expected to reduce or to eliminate, in future ships, the effects of the existing equipment limitations and shipboard constraints. Additionally, these design criteria are intended to assist the Naval Sea Systems Command in designing and building shipboard medicaldental suites which will most efficiently and economically accomplish their purpose. They embody arrangements of modern types of equipment design and, at the same time, require a minimum of space.
