Calculation of Moment of Inertia and Shear Area of a Ship Cross-Section.
Abstract:
When calculating the whipping motions of a surface ship caused by an underwater explosion, it is necessary to have a structural model of the ship in finite element form. Among the input data required for this model are the moment of inertia and shear area of the girder at specified cross-sections along the ship. If these data are unavailable, it may be necessary to compute them from the ships plans. The general theory involved in computing them is described as is a simple computer program written to expedite the calculation. Author
