Abstract:

Efforts by the U.S. Army to improve the survivability characteristics of its combat aircraft resulted in a proliferation of modifications ranging from simple airframe changes to the development of extremely complex electronic countermeasures. To effect centralized management of the development, procurement, and deployment of survivability enhancing equipment, it was necessary to establish the Aircraft Survivability Project Managers Office within the U.S. Army Aviation Systems Command. This report addresses the policies, regulations, missions, responsibilities, and management concepts employed by the Project Manager and supporting organizations in the realization of this goal.
