Evaluation of the ARC Type R-34A Digital-Tuned VOR Radio Receiver with C-81A Control Unit

Abstract:

Digital tuning of the type used in the ARC Type R-34A receiver with C-81A control unit is superior to manual tuning of the type used in the receiver component of the ANARN-30A VOR set. Automatic VARLocalizer selection is a desirable feature. It is recommended that 1 Digital tuning plus automatic VARLocalizer selection be standard features of all future VOR receivers. 2 The feasibility of modifying existing Army VOR receivers to include these features be investigated, and 3 The Caribou, Mohawk, and any new production aircraft be equipped with digitally-tuned VOR radio receivers.
