Abstract:

An effect of methylene blue dye on the submaxillary-sublingual glands is presented. The effect is seen when the dye is infused in normal physiological saline via the right femoral vein. Of the many tissues examined such as the submaxillary-sublingual glands, brain, lungs, liver, gastrointestinal tract, spleen, kidneys and thigh muscles, only the submaxillary-sublingual glands and the kidneys showed the blue coloration of the dye at the concentration given. Some of the biochemical properties of this dye may provide a means of elucidating the secretory functions of the submaxillary-sublingual glands. Author
