Soil Excavation Improvement from Bulldozer Blade Oscillation.
Abstract:
Reported are the results of research to determine the feasibility of oscillating a bulldozer blade to improve productivity. In particular, the research was directed toward determining the optimum oscillating mass, frequency, amplitude, and direction to determine the power required for oscillation and to conceive practical configurations which could be integrated into a dozer and which would prevent the oscillation from damaging the tractor. Three full scale configurations for the U. S. Army D-5 tractor 20,000 lb vehicle gross weight were designed to explore different directions, frequencies, amplitudes, and masses. Two of the configurations were built and tested. Results are discussed.
