Inverted Echo Sounder Instrument Report.
Abstract:
The Inverted Echo Sounder IES is an ocean bottom moored instrument which measures the time for an acoustic pulse to travel from the bottom to the surface and back. Two versions have been built. One is designed for use as part of a mooring and is housed in a 7.5-in. diameter aluminum tube. The second version is self-contained and has an acoustic release and recovery system. It uses a 17-in. glass sphere as a pressure housing. Both versions have completed deep water engineering tests and further field testing is in progress. Author
