Abstract:

The study first provides background, identifies and defines the foundry industry. Then key factors affecting productivity and economic stability are considered to assess their impact on the foundry industry resources and federal legislation area are discussed to include current and future expected effects. Two foundries were visited and top level personnel interviewed. The results of these interviews are in the study. The study concludes that 1 the foundry industry is and will continue to be a viable supplier 2 the most critical factor that could affect the foundry industry in the future would be raw material shortages 3 larger foundries are evolving from expansions and new foundry building which should increase productivity and provide more capital to handle economic crisis and 4 OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements, although impacting heavily initially, should be beneficial in the long run as a result of increased industrial and government awareness of the importance of the foundry industry and 5 meeting Department of Defense peculiar requirements may require special considerations.
