Anodic Polarization Behavior of Iron-Aluminum Alloys in Sulphuric Acid.
Abstract:
The anodic polarization of iron-aluminum alloys has been investigated by the potentiostatic technique in hydrogen saturated sulfuric acid solutions. All alloys containing up to 20 wo aluminum exhibited active, passive and transpassive characteristics. An improvement in corrosion resistance was seen for alloys with aluminum content of more than 16 wo which may be attributed to the ordered phase Fe3A1. Micrographs of the surface of anodically polarized alloy were examined at selected potentials, and the surface topography showed a significant difference in accordance with the reaction mechanism in each step of anodic polarization.
