Abstract:

An engineering design study program was performed to investigate new camera concepts and configurations for an Advanced Low Altitude Panoramic ALAP camera. The effort was divided into two phases. The initial phase was concerned with conceptual studies of various photosensor and film-storage techniques, both conventional and unconventional. The conceptual study resulted in selecting the one photosensor concept that would meet all the specification requirements for further detailed design and analysis. The system chosen for the second or detail design phase was the Dual Focal Length Split Scan Panoramic Camera System. The main features of this camera are a unique Zoom type lens with a movable rear group of elements that results in two distinct focal length positions continuous film motion with uniform velocity for both focal lengths modular building block construction which allows the user flexibility of configuration.
